Have you ever thought about how Eastern Panhandle homebuyers differ? Are there groups that gravitate toward certain home features, desire certain areas, and have to have a certain number of bedrooms? Well, there are two distinct groups of people searching for homes for sale on the Eastern Panhandle that differ— men and women.
According to Prudential Real Estate's third-quarter Consumer Outlook Survey, men and women are very different when it comes to what they want in West Virginia real estate, how they view homeownership, and the entire process of buying and selling.
In fact, 87 percent of women were found to enjoy the process of the home search— searching for homes, visiting them, and deciding which property to purchase. On the other hand, only 77 percent of men were found to enjoy looking at homes. The survey also found that women tend to associate owning a home in Jefferson County or Berkeley County with "pride," "accomplishment," or "independence," where men look at homeownership as a means of controlling their living space and having more space for themselves and their family.
How do they achieve a happy medium when it comes to purchasing a home on the Eastern Panhandle? The real estate agent! "What's most interesting is the dynamic that exists among couples and the role that agents play in balancing couples' real estate objectives," said Prudential Real Estate's president. When it comes down to choosing which home to purchase, men and women turn to their real estate agent to settle differences.
Agents played such a significant role in settling homebuyer disputes that the survey found 83 percent of participants believed their real estate agent was helpful in being a moderator, with 86 percent of them valuing their agent's opinion as much as (or even more than) their partner's. In a real estate professional, these homebuyers were looking for an honest and knowledgable source and that's just what they found.
