Eastern Panhandle WV Real Estate Blog
Tuesday, 25 February 2014

Spring is almost in the air and the Eastern Panhandle real estate market is heating up! Now is the time to prepare your homes in Charles Town, Ranson, Shepherdstown, Harpers Ferry, Martinsburg, Inwood, Falling Waters, and Hedgesville for the season ahead and all the while, ramp up your curb appeal and overall homebuyer appeal for the busy real estate season too. Below are a few tips Jefferson County and Berkeley County homeowners can do to prepare their homes on the Eastern Panhandle for spring (and be prepared for when the time comes to sell!).

Start Outside
Whether you're inspecting your West Virginia home for repairs or preparing your home for a new season, it's always best to begin on the outside of the property. Take a pen and paper with you to note everything that might need updated or repaired in anticipation of spring. Where to start? Look for outdoor light fixtures and bulbs that might need changed and replace them with energy-efficient bulbs. Has your front door lost its luster? Consider giving it a new coat of paint, perhaps with a color that stands out, polish hinges and hardware or replace them if they are outdated. If you are a new Eastern Panhandle home seller, it might also be a nice touch to put out a welcome mat for potential homebuyers that may be looking.

Make an Entrance
It's all about preparing your outside entrance for an easy path to the door. Clear all seasonal debris like branches, overgrown weeds and shrubs, and repair the walkways that may have become damaged during the winter months. The harsh winter elements can take a toll on outside walkways, particularly on cement and stone. Take this time to patch cracks and holes and power wash any winter stains that may have shown up on cement, stone and asphalt.

Landscape
There is no improvement to a home that makes a greater impression that nice landscaping. And with spring on the horizon, it's about that time to begin dreaming up how you want your Jefferson or Berkeley County homes' exterior to look during the spring and summer months. Do you have an area of your yard you don't love? Well-placed and sized plants can conceal anything you don't want visible such as air conditioning units. You can also place large pots or hanging baskets of flowers on your front porch or patio to make the outdoors more of a living space. This may win points with West Virginia homebuyers who are looking for an outdoor space to entertain when looking for a new home in the area.

Curb Appeal
Curb appeal goes a long way with Eastern Panhandle homebuyers and can do wonders for the feel of a home, regardless of your plans to sell or stay. This spring, freshen up the furniture with a new coat of paint or replacing items entirely. Empty spot on the porch? Patio looking stark? Bring in new furniture and liven up spaces with benches, swings, or relaxing outdoor armchairs. Not only does this ramp up curb appeal, but it gives the impression that your home is just as welcoming on the outside as it is on the inside.
