The weather may still be a little more wet and temperatures a little chillier than we'd like in West Virginia's Eastern Panhandle, but that doesn't mean we can't start looking ahead to the spring season that's just around the corner. There are dozens of places where you can begin to think spring and plan to enjoy the outdoors again right here in Berkeley County!
This 250 mile-long stretch of the Appalachian Trail has trailheads in Luray, Virginia and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in addition to the 33 miles located in West Virginia. Much of our part of the trail is located in the Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management area.
You will find this trail about a mile past the sign for Sleepy Creek Lake. The path winds around until it reaches Pee Wee Point Trail, a picturesque setting at the end of the mountain.
Pee Wee Point Trail
Just after leaving the Beacon Trail, you will begin to head downhill on Pee Wee Point Trail. This is a beautiful stretch of the Tuscaroara to hike with excellent views and only the sounds of nature to power your journey.
Sleepy Creek Lake
This 205-acre natural beauty is nestled between two mountains in the Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management area. The lake is prime for fishing trophy bass (has more than any other lake in West Virginia!), in addition to crappie and northern pike.
Poor House Farm Park
Located 3.5 miles west of Martinsburg, this park boasts 137 acres filled with 5 miles of biking and hiking trails, a well-stocked pond, Tuscaroara Creek, football and soccer fields.
